# Spanish Armada fails (1588)

Philip II's invasion fleet was defeated by English naval action, weather and logistical problems. Within the broader Tudor Britain period, dynastic consolidation, Reformation, closer incorporation of Wales and Ireland, and rivalry with Catholic Europe transformed the state.
