# Edward VI becomes king (1547)

The nine-year-old Edward succeeded Henry VIII under a regency council. Within the broader Tudor Britain period, dynastic consolidation, Reformation, closer incorporation of Wales and Ireland, and rivalry with Catholic Europe transformed the state.
